tessone Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 You seem to be contradicting yourself, first advocating strict gun control, then satirizing it. To respond to Bitsearch, the problem is not toughening up the US's gun laws now, it's that our history makes it tough to enact such laws and do more than take guns away from law-abiding citizens. It's a rock-and-a-hard-place kind of issue. Chris TessoneBrown Belt, Kuk Sool Won
TKD_McGee Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 I wasn't contradicting myself, I just wanted to try and sound as stupid and dumbed down as possible in my first post... no one caught it or laughed at it, or even argued with it.. so I guess your just drones that believe everyone you see on TV... There is a very easy way to fix Gun problems that has nothing to do with guns.. All we have to do is penalize people more for doing less. No three strikes, we need an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.. All too often people get 20 years for manslaughter and go out only to do it again... The solution is not to penalize law biding citizens but we need to penalize criminals.. Do unto others, as they done to you.
ckdstudent Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 Fine, you find me a 100% accurate way to tell the difference between the two and I'll agree with you. As for the gun thing, I think people should have as many guns as they want. In fact no government should have any. However the government should hold all of the ammunition. ---------Pil SungJimmy B

Or perhaps you're not the master of wit and irony you think you are. Please don't assume everyone else is dimwitted if your attempt at sarcasm didn't come off the way you'd intended. Does anyone in the UK know how your laws regarding guns, murder, etc., stack up to US ones? I'm curious whether you can really draw a link between stiffness of penalties and drops in crime rate... TKD_McGee Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 Coming on here challenging me does nothing, im not going to go on a site and bring up information that you already know about. Europe and Australia has more crime than the US does because they banned guns. Banning guns solves nothing. Criminals are not going to follow laws in the first place anyways, they wouldn't care if guns were banned in the country they were going to commit the crime it. They would use it against that country in order to carry out their deeds. Even today the UK is quite liberal, now you know why there are Yankees in the US. We didn't want to put up with the bullshit, and we don't now. The fact is if someone knows they are going to get off easy for killing someone they will do it again. If they know they will die for their crimes then they will not do it. Armed citizens also obviously stop crimes from happening... http://members.ozemail.com.au/~confiles/confiles.html Do unto others, as they done to you.
tessone Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 Europe and Australia has more crime than the US does because they banned guns. Huh? Europe has a staggeringly lower crime rate than the United States. When the shooting happened in Switzerland following 9/11, people in the area who were interviewed expressed extreme shock, as no one had been murdered in the area in something like five years, much less a shooting spree. If you don't believe my assertions, visit the UK Home Office website (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/) and the US Bureau of Justice stats page (http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/). ckdstudent Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 No no no, I'm sure you meant to say less crime, we certainly have less gun crime involving real guns. I think someone estimated that only one in ten guns used in a crime are geniune and the rest are replicas. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Bitseach Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 There is quite a good summary of articles on guns in the US on this site: http://www.guardian.co.uk/usguns/0,2759,182056,00.html I shall try to find some more info on the UK situation, presently... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bitseach Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 Great summary of gun ownership relating to crime in different countries: http://www.aegean.gr/sociology/Tseloni/icvs2.pdf Firearms law in the UK may be read at: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/pcrg/firearms/policeguide.pdf Figures for crime in the UK may be found at: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs/crimstatvol2.pdf for any who are interested! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TKD_McGee Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 If you ban guns from a country it will not stop all crimes. A criminal will use any weapon or a gun, they are not going to follow the laws in the first place. It just harms citizens by slowly taking their rights away, then again Europe dosen't have much rights anyways.. (or is losing them steadily) Here are some Statistics I managed to find on a site: http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=21902 http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=15304 http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=15322 Do unto others, as they done to you.
