In Karate, we have our kiai yell for when we want to add emphasis to our strikes. What is the equivalent of that in some of your styles?

In our particular school of Wing Chun we don't have any. We're just taught proper breathing and the like.

If you have just read the above message and agree with it then you may worship me as the best thing since sliced bread.

Of course if you don't agree then hey, i'm a crazed lunatic and you should ignore my insane ramblings.

Bruce Lee did Wing Chun, didn't he? I wonder where he got the idea to yell so much.

The directors of his fimls, no doubt.

No, I think they were his idea. Pretty sure I heard this somewhere, like in a documentary or something.

Hung-Ga uses sounds for specific movements.

yeah, our longfist did as well. ha, hey, oi, huuh... (phonetically) there are seven sounds total, each accomplishing a different goal.

Hung Gar has some but not kiai style. It's because breathing adds power (qi and taiji quan style) - every movement with a breathing part has a different type of breathing part - unlike karate where evertything is kiai . . . .

The World follows Heaven,

Heaven follows Tao,

Tao follows the way things are."

With the exception of the opening & closing bow none of the sounds is used for shouting.
