Treebranch
Let me know your thoughts on this. parkerlineage
You know what I find really interesting? We only punch vertically to the face - almost never horizontally, because the knuckles line up better. My GM always talks about how boxers "hind behind their pillows". Bare knuckles woudl be a lot more hardcore, I would think. My Professor tells the story of when he broke his hand on someone's face in a dark parking lot because of punching wrong - it's a good thing for everyone to learn.I did find that very interesting! Thanks for the good read. American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker

bushido_man96
That is a cool article. I like to find history on boxing, but it is hard not to find anything that isn't about current boxing sport news. It does have a rich history, all the way back to the first Olympic games in ancient Greece. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
ps1
Interesting article. Although...the reason boxers "corkscrew" their punches is because it allows the deltoid (shoulder muscles) to protect their jaw on the same side while they punch. I think it's a good read overall. Ace2021
Good read, I always wondered if vertical punching was ethical or not..and it's history. Thanks for showing me the insight. A New Age Dawns

legkicker
Interesting article but I wouldn't automatically assume all of it is 100% true. I have read articles in the past that go against some of what this says. I will try to find links to those other articles, asap. I personally only use the verticle punch occasionally, as a jab. I'll do more of a 3/4 corkscrew punch when going bareknuckle. I do agree with some points made in this article basically saying how gloves do give a boxer an advantage and created certain strikes that wouldn't be as effective without gloves. alsey
when i started looking into grappling in karate, i stumbled on a load of bare knuckle boxing stuff. very interesting.
