IcemanSK Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I'm just curious who has one. Maybe your school was in a 4th of July parade or you were a big fan of that look on Bill Wallace in the early 80's. I don't own one, but I've honestly thought about it more than once. Being a good fighter is One thing. Being a good person is Everything. Kevin "Superkick" McClinton
patusai Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Being left handed and left footed I appreciated Bill Wallace. I saw the gi but I never had the courage to buy or wear one. We were traditional in the 80s and such a gi, even in a parade, would not have been appreciated. It is a great looking gi if you can wear it "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
jaymac Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I do feel that I am a patriotic person, but admit I do not sport a stars and stripe gi. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
Jiffy Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I just thought I'd put in something here... Everyone except those who live in the USA laugh at stars and stripes clothing. Weather it be boots, undies or Gi's.I'm not trying to insult anyone here, I mean in the states, I'm sure it's the done thing and therefore normal, and I guess being patriotic is a great thing... but to the rest of the world, it looks funny!Good luck finding some! The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.

We Americans do tend to go overboard with our love of the flag. That's a bit why I brought this thread up a few days before US Independance Day (July 4th). If your MA school is in a 4th of July parade, I wondered who would have a patriotic gi.I'm not dead set against them, although some are a bit much. Being a good fighter is One thing. Jiffy Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 WOW! How refreshing, someone who doesn't take offence to something like that. That's great!! Let us know if you find one... we gotta see it!! The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
Holland Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I have always thought they were ugly. Of course I would not have told that to Superfoot at the time he was wearing them.
IcemanSK Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 WOW! How refreshing, someone who doesn't take offence to something like that. That's great!! Let us know if you find one... we gotta see it!!Some are tasteful, like this one:http://www.kwonusa.com/kwonusa/shop_artikeldetails.asp?kid=480%2C521&agnr=1028 It just has Red white & blue stripes on the shoulder & pants.Others like this one remind me of Evil Kninevel:http://boldlook.net/description.php?ref=2000It really is an American thing, isn't it? Other countries don't do this as much. Being a good fighter is One thing. Being a good person is Everything. Kevin "Superkick" McClinton
Holland Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Gaudiness is inherent in the American blood line.
