Throwing Cards (as weapons) on ABC TV July 6

Recommended Posts

ABC (tv channel) will be airing "Master of Champions" this Thursday July 6 at 8 pm. This is not on cable or satellite, so anyone with a tv can pick it up if they want to see it.

This week they will show a man throwing playing cards into walls and fruit from several feet away. I could not get many details off of the fast commercial, so I could not see what material the wall was made of or how far he was from the targets, but I did see him thow the card and sink it halfway through an un-peeled banana and then an apple.

I have seen discussions here about throwing cards, so here is everyone's chance to see it.

I have seen some demonstrations of throwing cards, but they have little effectiveness as weapons. On an episode of Mythbusters they tested this and even created a machine that could throw the cards much faster than any person. Even the machine wasn't capable of seriously hurting anyone though.

Even throwing stars were only meant as a distraction. All a card would do is make somebody mad.

If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi

Hah, McNerny beat me to the Mythbusters thing. They built up the whole machine and fired into ballistics gel-stuff (sorry, can't remember the real name). It did very, very little, going in I think about an inch at most. I'm not exactly sure of the details because I haven't seen that episode in a while.

But seriously, I'm not wasting my precious cards on an attacker. If I can't beat solitaire, how am I going to beat an attacker?
