BLOWN Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I don't know about you guys, but My academy trains extremly hard. I have seen, however, many other traditional schools train like mentioned above; ''Pansies.''-Ray -Pain Is Weakness Leaving The Body.-It's Not The Size Of The Dog In The Fight, But The Size Of The Fight In The Dog.
ps1 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Wars were being fought over Soccer Matches before Columbus was a twinkle in his daddy's eye! Plus...as a whole...America hasn't paid much attention to the sport for the last oohhh 210 years or so! That's why we get our butts kicked! How can this compare to our skill levels in combat effectiveness? We have the most powerful military in the world! This is something that has been established and constantly modified since 1776! Being a vet I am a little biased here though. We don't consistantly win in sport martial arts because we don't have a government that will pay atheletes to train it specifically (nor should they as this is not the function of a government). Dominant teams like Germany, Sweeden, France and the like all give special allowances for their atheletes. Often, people who aren't in those programs or don't have special permission, can't even train in the arts legally. Personally, that's not an America I want to see. If that means we will rarely see a gold medal in the olympics...so be it. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."

patusai Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 like martial arts if u see how guys in brazil train for soccer its insane we dont have as much drive same with the martial arts in the martial arts origin country they train on an insane level i may just be a cultural difference alto of schools in america dont train as and as much on a high levelI believe you are right. Too many Americans train for the glory and the belt and the recognition. Others train to train and I believe too that it is a cultural issue. Now I am not saying all Americans and all schools and all instructors do this. "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
bat in a birdless village Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I do not want to go into details, but I think that American martial arts training should go to another level. You need to go into details. Otherwise, we don't know why you believe that.bat Being a shodan is about learning what you DON'T know about what you know.
mtheiss Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 I do think it was a fair decision on your part to insist that my soccer comparisons are not fair, but there are certain guidelines which I have noticed in speaking with some international teachers which could very much consider some schools "pantsies". I am not into overhauling the whole means of teaching martial arts in the USA, only that there should be specific camps set up for a particular group of good practictioning youth. Allowing people to keep their normal jobs, I think it is easy for youth to end up in certain situations without causing as much pain as if they were breadwinning adults.I feel that my views are private, but then, if you want to talk about extreme examples, I am game.
