jaymac Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I think as in any type of sport, especially Martial Arts, it can get easy to feel that your training has plateaued. This of course is not true because you can always find several areas that need improvement in your art. What I want to know, how do you find ways to remotivate yourself into fierce training, or how do you motivate those new black belts who are now not receiving new ranks every so many months, but having to wait years to advance to a new dan grade? A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
luckorskill007 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Self Motivation- i watch martial arts moviesStudent Motivation- fun drills, seminars, special classes
Geng Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Self Motivation- i watch martial arts moviesStudent Motivation- fun drills, seminars, special classesMovies are the bomb. A good movie can get you in the mood like nothing else. Also if you don't want to work out- don't. A few days of rest can do miracles.
cathal Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 For me personally it is taking a few days off of classes and training. You start to 'get the itch' after a little while. But also I might watch a movie, like oh so many of us do. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
elbows_and_knees Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 it will vary from person to person. IMO, a person who is training solely for rank advancement is training for the wrong reason, but hey, to each his own. for people who train for rank, give them other recognition - certificates, medals, etc. at certain intervals between belt tests. For those who are competitive in class sparring, urge them to step into a full contact ring.Have gatherings and movie showings for the ones who get hyped off of moives and anime.Personally, anime does it for me more than movies. and I love to compete. anime and competition are my combination.
shotochem Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I found that a session or 2 with someone of a different style tends to get me fired up again. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
luckorskill007 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 best remotivation for me---- going to a tournament and getting my butt handed to me. I go back and train to improve myself
Geng Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 What about cross-training.Just run or do calisthenics or lift. Don't throw any kicks or punches for a while. You may be surprised how fast you would want to get back into it.
pittbullJudoka Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I seem to have constant motivation from myself and my training partners. When talking to some of the guys same rank as myself and say how I am feeling my technique is lacking they take a look at it and reasure me I look fine.I sit back and look at my ultimate goal to be the best and most knowledgeable martial artist I can be.
tdiedwards Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 For me, miss a few training sessions. Then watch a tournament. It used to drive me crazy so i couldn't wait for the next lesson again.Good thread idea,Tim
