lordtariel
My recommendation is to take a weekend and have her rent each of the systems and a couple of games. That way she can find out the one she likes the best. It's much cheaper to spend the money to rent the consoles than to buy one and decide you want the other later. I prefer the PS2 because I'm really into RPG's, but I probably won't spend the money on the PS3 until the whole blu-ray HD thing is settled. koryu
The new nintendo is going to be very nice and affordable (around $250 from what I hear). I'm also a big fan of the PS2, and it will be easy to find plenty of age appropriate games for the PS2. The PS3 is really for the serious gamer, and a lot of people may not like it at all. patusai
Thank you. I'm kinda getting the PS2 is the way to go. Xbox360 looks interesting but I think that the number of games available for what she is looking for may be a problem. I'm still thinking and kicking tires so to speak. Thanks for your input. aefibird
PS2 has a good choice of games and they can be picked up cheaply on places like eBay. It will also play PS1 games, of which there are still loads knocking about (try charity shops or independent games stores, they often have second hand games for sale).X-Box and X-Box 360 are great, great consoles but games are often more expensive and there seem to be less "family friendly" and pre-teen/early-teen friendly games available. Is your daughter sure she wants a console or would she rather go with a hand-held like PSP or Nintendo DS? What do her friends have? If her friends have the different consoles between them (e.g. Mary has a PSP, Sara has an X-Box 360) they she could try them out, see which one she likes and which they recommend. An advantage of getting a console that her friends have is that they can share games and play online with one another "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." alsey
i've always thought with consoles, you have to base it on what games you want to play rather than the actual system. the actual differences in graphics and controllers and stuff aren't worth worrying about IMO. i've always been a PC fanboy, but for consoles i always chose nintendo because of mortal kombat. so decide what you want to play first, then buy the console that has most of those games on it. Kieran-Lilith
Gamecube is better. Of course, since I'm still a teenager, I'm not allowed to play all the M rated games that would probably go better with the X-Box or the PS2. The Gamecube is really family friendly, but if your'e going to get a game system, you almost might want to wait for the Nintendo Wii. It looks beautiful....and it's go so many cool things! The controller is like a remote, but you can use two halves of it, and in some games (like the DBZ game) you actually go through particular motion sequences in reality to perform certain techniques (like the Kamehameha wave!). patusai
She is looking for a console. Her friends have Xbox. The games are expensive (especially XBox360 games) and there are not that many teen rated games available now. maybe in the near future? There is also some online thing allow you to play XBox (XBox and XBox 360 are not compatible except on line and you need a DSL connection to do this properly. I have dial up (probably one of the few to still have this but...).I have to make a decision soon. Thanks for your input.
