stoneheart Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I came across this term on the web, and I was hoping someone could tell me what it means. Chagi means kick, so it is a kick of some type. A google search only turned up some Dutch(?) sites. Thanks.
luckorskill007 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 nereo- frontchagi- kickit was a long process finding out lol
stoneheart Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks, Luck. May I ask the source of your information? The discussion I read made nereo chagi seem to be much more potent than a front kick, although yes, I know the front kick is considered to be the superior kick by many Okinawan systems. Specifically some Wado-ryu guys were discussing kicks from TSD or TKD. One brought up nereo chagi as a technique that would add value to Wado, and I know Wado has a front kick already, so that leads me to believe he meant something else. The Wado-Ryu discussion I refer to is an old one, otherwise I would ask the original author.

Kill Jill Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 I searched for the term 'Nereo Chagi' and I saw the German site on which it was printed. I think they got confused how to Romanize the Korean pronunciation.I would suggest that they mean 'Narooh' Chagi which is the axe/cutdown kick, or 'Nayrooh Chagi' which is the double turning kick. There are no limits.http://taekwondodiaries.blogspot.com^^*
stoneheart Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 Thanks, Kill Jill. I was hoping you would chime in as someone currently in S. Korea.
karatekid1975 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 When I did TSD, I was taught that "Ahp chagi" was front kick. Different terms for different dojangs, I'm guessing. Laurie F
isshinryu5toforever Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Ahp chagi is a front kick, ahp(ae for correct context) in Korean means to the front. He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.- Tao Te Ching"Move as swift as a wind, stay as silent as forest, attack as fierce as fire, undefeatable defense like a mountain."- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
bushido_man96 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I figured it out. In the ATA handbooks, it is written as neh-reyo chagi, and the translation is axe kick.Hope this helps! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
