I just finished reading Roy Kurban's book Kicking Techniques. The version I have is my dad's original, the third printing done in 1980. Seems so old, but it had good stuff in it. I like his philosophy on kicking, and how he tries to hide the motion of the kicking foot, and use what he calls offsetting balance, and all that stuff.

Does anyone know anything about Mr. Kurban, and if he runs an organization, or if he just has his own schools? Let me know, and give me a run down if you enjoyed the book too.

Roy Kurban (now Grandmaster Kurban) has operated a school in Arlington, Texas since around 1973. He's still teaching, though I don't know how many days per week.

His web site is: https://www.roykurban.com

I viewed the site...it was quite interesting. The "Excecutive Black Belt" was something different or seemed to be. Thanks

It is an interesting site, it could have been better without that music. LOL

Roy Kurban is a TKD man. He studied some in Korea in the 1960's under Park Won-Chik, but studied mostly from Allen Steen's group (if I remember correctly).

Park Won-Chik was originally a Jido-Kwan student in the 1950's. He lives in Fort Worth, Texas now, but doesn't teach anything from the Jido-Kwan. He teaches Olympic-type TKD, emphasizing the Tae Guek forms and TKD Yudansha forms now.

Roy Kurban still teaches the Palgue forms and the Yudansha forms. Last I saw he still teaches the original Koryo(1967) forms, which is becoming more rare these days.

What are the Yudansha forms? I have never heard of them.

Yudansha is black belt rank.

In 1967 the KTA created and introduced forms for black belt grade holders: Koryo, Ship Jin, Tae Baek, Baek Jae, Jee Tae,etc. There are more, but I forget their names.
