bushido_man96
The AAU now offers point fighting and Olympic sparring in their competitions, isn't that right? Also, I had heard that there were 3 different forms systems that they allow now as well: ITF, WTF, and ATA. There were a couple of students from our school that went, but I didn't ask them if they saw any different forms. If anyone can fill me in on the details, and how you think each of the different styles are received, it would be great. I know I can go to AAU.com, but I want everyone else's opinions.Thanks. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

luckorskill007
an ex girlfriend of mine was into AAU stuff. I competed in a little tournament with point sparring but couldnt use my ATA forms . IMO ATA has some really nice looking forms, especially black belt forms.

I guess it was the TSD forms that they allow, and not the ATA forms. What did you think of the point sparring? Did you enjoy it? The adult student that went from our school enjoyed it, but he said he got blasted with some hard contact right off the bat, and it wasn't called, so he just went right after him. I like the idea of the head contact. My instructor said we were going to start doing more of it in class, but we haven't yet. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
luckorskill007
I won my ring in sparring. But i teach ATA so i spar almost daily with head contact with some excellent martial artist. Yea ATA forms would blow the others away. I hated thw WTF forms looks wise, but they were practical i guessed
bushido_man96
Do you do head contact with the hands in your ATA sparring? We never did, because of the tournamnet rules. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

bushido_man96
Are they doing continuous point or stop point in the aau these days? The Olympic style I know is continuous, but I think the point fighting is a stop point. Have to check though, I'll ask my instructor tonight. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
