RichardHangHong
You did the right thing doing what you did. Sometimes when ego takes over people can get a little big for their boots and try to push their weight around, challenging people senior to them, etc. So when they get put on the butts it brings them back down to earth with a satisfying thud. Everyone needs to eat a piece of humble pie from time to time and it should always be a senior like yourself who feeds it to them. jaymac
In that being said that your instructor was away, wasn't there another high ranking blackbelt in charge? When my instructor is away, I am in charge and report everything back to him upon his return. I still think you handled the situation the only way you could, but just wondering why the person left in charge did not intervene before you had to take care of it yourself. parkerlineage
why the person left in charge did not intervene before you had to take care of it yourselfBecause, while I have great respect for the Nidan who was in charge because of rank, he is not a very good instructor. He is very laid back, which is fine, but also very inexperienced in teaching; in his defense, at the end of class, he did address the matter to the class as a whole, which I thought was well done. lordtariel
Someone who studies a different style has to respect the dojo they are visiting. If the instructor wants to have some kind of demonstration, that's one thing, but it's not you're dojo, so you don't make the rules. It seems to me like they got what was coming to them. cathal
at the end of class, he did address the matter to the class as a whole, which I thought was well done. What did he say, and where those people still there? .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
parkerlineage
He said something to the effect of: "It's important that we remember that we're all brothers here, and that we're not here to injure or harass one another. Rather than going all out on lower ranks, we should try to help them, and remember that we were there not so long ago ourselves," which I certainly find very quotable. jaymac
Unfortunately we are going to find people in Martial Arts who find themselves better than others. You see this in every school and at any rank. Thankfully, there are people like you, who stick up for the individuals whom you train with. A dojo is like a family in all sense. You care for each other, train together, and grow in your art together. All others ---> KEEP OUT! A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
