My own style...

Recommended Posts

You initial posts highlights to me one of the things that people seem to fail to see and understand.

Sure you might have slightly modified the thing you originally learnt so that it works for you but you can;t teach that to others because your personal adaptions may not and chances are will not work for everyone.

In order to teach what you know effectively, you have to teach it in it's original form so that others can learn it as you did and make it fit their own body as neccessary.

I don't want to make you a copy of me, I want to make you learn what I learnt.

what do i know, i'm an idiot.

Been in MAs since I was 2 I'm 26 now, I hold rank in American Jujitsu, Ninjitsu, Shotokan and Goju Karate and judo. Now I'm kinda sorting what works for me and what doesn't and have had my own personalized sub-program in MA training based on sport medicine, physics, biology and basic applications since about 14.

Now I'm just finding me, I'm not trapped by traditionalism, but idealism. The idea of self-perfection which means more then style or form. I was brought up in Shotokan but cross trained in everything I could, I've even studied some kung-fu...

What's next? As you have said above you are just finding you. My suggestion is work on finding you and then fly in the direction that the true you determines. The best of luck to you

I must admit I have found myself in similar situations to you. I am now 25 and have been training 19 years. I have also studied various arts. I too have recently reached this point where I am starting to question many things and come up with different theories and principles to what I was taught.

I guess the one thing to remember here is no matter what any of us come up with, it's highly unlikely that it's anything new, so don't try to market it as if it is. Almost everything we come up with or feel, someone has been through before us. Remember, the arts have been around for a long time.

The important thing is to remember where you come from and see the value in it, but not to be bound by it. Liberating yourself does not mean forgetting your past.
