When I type Wudang into google UK, I get Wudang Tai Chi. Is this a fighting form of Tai Chi? Are they the same thing? I thought Wudang was kung fu from Mount Wudang.

  • 2 weeks later...

Wudang is Kung Fu from The Wudang Mount but as it it mostly an internal system, it's not surprising you only got hits for Tai Qi Kung

Legend has it that tai chi was invented by a man with the surname of cheung and a nickname of three winds, refering to his regular three bouts of madness everyday.

this man eventually settled on wundang mountain and sat at the head of the taoist temple for a verrrry long time. His kung fu was the kung fu of the wundang school of martial arts; school of refering to the style of the place, the temple was not a school. Hence, wundang=tai chi.

what do i know, i'm an idiot.

Sorry, I'm still not clear on this :). If I learnt Wudang Tai Chi Chuan in the UK, would I be learning the same thing that is taught at the Wudang Taoist Kung Fu Academy in Wudang?

Yes it would, but it would not be as disciplined for obvious reasons (eg. getting up at 6am and training till 11, then from 2 till 6 isnt really practical outside of the Temple).

Wudang Tai Chi Kung is just Tai Chi Kung that originated at Wudang Mount - it can be taught all over the world. . . . like in Eskimo country =)

After researching the exact same thing for several years, I must say that, 'no' you would not be practicing the exact same thing.

Good luck!

In what way would it be different? How different are the two?

Knowing how martial arts is taught in China, I would be very tempted to that say the answer is Yes, you would be learning the same thing. However, that is not to say that what you learn is what you think you're learning.
