tiffanyhk Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 I am looking to find a form of martial art in Sarasota Florida. I am looking for something that will empower me. I have a dance background. i was thinking Krav Maga. Any ideas???
Smitty Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 define "empower"However, Krav Maga would be excellent.
bushido_man96 Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 With your dance background, you might look into caporiea, or maybe another kicking art, like Taekwondo. However, any art will benefit you, if you can find a good instructor. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Nightshadow Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 When people ask me what style do I think is best for them I always tell them. Only person who knows what art is right for you is you. Everyone has styles they like and other styles they hate. You should ask youserlf. Are you wanting to compete, self-defense or both?Krav Maga is a good system.Best of luck - NightShadow We Practice for Thousands of Days,Whether We Win or Lose is Decided in an Instant
patusai Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I would agree with bushido_man96. With your dance skills may work well with TKD especially if you found a good instructor. Good Luck "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
marie curie Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Why not find 4 or 5 martial arts schools in your area, and call them up. Ask the instructor if you could sit in on a class for free. After actually watching what all goes on during a class, you should have a better sense of which you would enjoy more. ebff Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I'd recommend Muay Thai because of the extremely fast learning curve and because you can see your limits straight away and work hard to get through them - as my club says, "we just get the job done". It's quite tough work though, I haven't seen many women do it, maybe 2-3 for 60 members. If you want a challenge...
jaymac Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I do think that everyone is unique in what style they would enjoy most and advise most to "shop around", but since you felt it important to mention a background in dance, I personally think you would love capoeira. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
