EnvE Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 Didn't he want to know some self-defense? Muay Thai isn't really self-defense...it's more towards fighting... I say Judo, Aikido, Ju-Jitsu, and/or Kenpo... Fighting over the internet is like special olympics...even if you win, you're still a *.
Roc Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 I thought that your shins were the hardest bone in your body??
Martial_Artist Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 That's a big misconception. Watch Muay Thai fights alot and there are always shins breaking. I've even seen plain old karateka's hitting shins by accident and one just being split. If you want to block, either avoid the kick altogether or don't use your shin. I can't recommend a specific art for self-defense. The best thing I can do is recommend learning as much as possible from as many different sources as possible. Trimming the inefficient and go from there. "I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.Imagination is more important than knowledge.Knowledge is limited. striking_cobra Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 brazillian jiu jitsu is a fine martial art for self defense...i teaches great offense and defense from the ground...neutralizing an inexperienced opponent one on one becomes quite easy for the bjj pratitioner...for multiple opponents i'd rather stay standing if possible though...i give a for thai boxing as well...(though i really think you would do well learning bjj...but i am predisposed to saying that since i love it so much.)
