Taikudo-ka Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 What do you want to do? What do you mean by "best"? Best in an open martial arts tournament ring? Best for "street defense" against an unskilled assailant? Best for hard core full contact street fighting? Best for hard, disciplined training, fitness, flexibility, etc? Best to disable and control an attacker without harming them unduly, eg for police attempting an arrest? Best to use against an enemy armed with a machine gun, grenades, bazookas and suicide bombers? There are several threads, particularly in general martial arts, discussing the pros and cons of various arts. KarateForums.com - Sempai

Bretty101 Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 Try Thai boxing, Mention that your experienced in fighting and a hard man. You'll soon realise your quite the opposite and then the learning begins. IMO Thai boxing is the most simple and effective martial art making it ideal for practical self defence. Bretty
Jack Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 Yep, Thai Boxing would seem to fit your criteria, build, and attitude. JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
Ti-Kwon-Leap Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 A basic understanding of aikido/judo/jiu-jitsu as well as groundfighting(wrestling) skills are also essential as most fights end up on the ground. a kickboxer alone doesn't have a prayer against a groundfighter who can intercept his attacks! Crucio Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 muay thai is cool i guess, but whenever someone says muaythai, i still think of this happening to me WHY THE SHINS???
