Blade13 Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Does anyone have any tips for getting over being nervous? My choral director wants me to do a martial arts demo in the spring chorus show, like... with flips and stuff. Wushu style, basically. I have confidence that I can do it. I know I can, but Im afraid that I will get nervous before I go on stage. Ive never had to do any martial arts performance before. When I get nervous, my leg shakes and that could have some bad results if I have a shaky leg while doing some kind of flip. *gulp* The show is on May 11.
Bon Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Getting nervous is natural. Anyone who tells you they don't get nervous is lying. It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.
YODA Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 You'll be fine - Sure, you'll be nervous before then event, right up to going on stage - but as soon as you get stuck into your routine you'll forget that & have a ball Go for it! KickChick Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Hey ... that's my birthday!! (shhhhh!) .... just think about me blowing out all those candles and that will keep your mind off of your nervousness!..... but seriously, ..... what I do is get my mind ready ...FOCUS .... this is your time to shine! Take advantage of the opportunity to show others.... and yourself more importantly, what you have accomplished! Be a showoff! (but a nice one) Internalize --- concentrate on just you and what YOU are doing .... block out all of the external. Unless you are public speaking (which you are not) it is important that you look at the people to whom you are addressing .... in this case visualize them sitting there naked! Now they are the ones that should be nervous! -- ) Good Luck ... take a few deep breaths ... correct breathing will set you at ease! Enjoy your minutes of fame! TKD_McGee Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Confidence, don't practice before hand, and don't over think it. Just stand in one place calmly and wait for your chance. Otherwise most of the time you will be a nervous wreck. When I test or do anything important I don't even notice the audience. Do unto others, as they done to you.
Jack Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Perhaps visualisation meditation could also help? JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com

kicker Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Well heres one for you GOOD LUCK and have fun try not to pay to much attention to the audience try to look at the back wall if your talking and not moving to much. I once was in a play about...... pollution... I think Well anyways me and 2 other people were their and we have to be in the play for about 10 minutes. But we had to go near the end so we sat on the side and watched intil are part was up and then we got ready and did are play. It was accually quite quick but I was more thinking about not screwing up then on the audience and (thing I mentioned at top) It is nervous like the whole day or like an hour before when your up. But after your up you might be a bit less nervous. when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
