strangepair03
Does anyone out there know of a dojo, preferable in northern New Jersey that teaches Okinawan Shorinjiryu karate from the Joen Nakazato lineage. Having been exposed to it once before, I really want to learn the art. Thanks A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.Kyan Chotoku Sensei
armanox
I can ask, since I'm not too far away and Sensei knows a lot of different people. Tres
intresting, is that lineage very different in technique, kata, or ideology from other lines? Karate is like hot water, if not given continual heat it will go cold.
Jussi Häkkinen
intresting, is that lineage very different in technique, kata, or ideology from other lines? No, it's a typical style from Kyan Chotoku lineage. No Pinan-kata, first kata Seisan, "highest" kata Kusanku. Isshinryu_heart
I can ask - I am from northern NJ and my sensei might know someone. Did you train in Isshinryu in NJ?
strangepair03
I can ask - I am from northern NJ and my sensei might know someone. Did you train in Isshinryu in NJ?Yes, I still do. Isshin Ryu will always be #1 with me, I am just interested in the Shorinjiryu because I understand it to be "pure" from Kyan Chotoku....no additions or subtractions.Figured if I can learn some of the "root" systems that were combined to form Isshin Ryu, it will make my understanding better.Where do you train and under whom...If you don't mind me asking? Sohan
intresting, is that lineage very different in technique, kata, or ideology from other lines?Nakazato created the style out of respect for Kyan, and vowed to teach kata and other technique as Kyan did, completely unchanged. It perhaps is the Okinawan style most loyal to Kyan and the lineage of Sakugawa, Sokon Matsumura, and Itosu. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth."
