mlee
Hey all, thanks for checking out my post. My question is about Judo. First let me explain my situation. I am currently a green belt in Shotokan Karate and have every intention to keep training in Karate. I am very interested in learning Judo. I plan (if I'm accepted) on attending my local Police Academy in January and was wondering if 4-5 months of Judo training would be beneficial before I go. If I was to start Judo it would be in mid-July just after I (hopefully) receive my purple belt in Karate. Just wondering what any of you Judo guys/gals think and anyone else who has an opinion.ThanksM
glockmeister
I have done some cross training with some guys at a local Judo school. Judo at leastfor me is not difficult to learn, the basic sweeps and throws you learn as a beginner would still be highly effective if executed properly. IN Law Enforcement work, taking down a bad guy is somethign you will more than likely have to do from time to time. Even 5 months of Judo training will help you in that regard. Will 5 months make you a master? No. But any quality training is better than no training. Find a couple of basic sweeps and throws That you really like and practice them over and over untill you got them down. They will be a great addition to what you learn in Karate. And you can always pick back up where you left off down the road should the opportunity present itself. Expand your horizons and try to get whatever extra experience you can. It will help you to grow. "You know the best thing about pain? Orion
mlee, whatever extra you do mate will be of benefit to you, even only for 4-5 months. If you really like it you could find another class to attend. Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.
Sohan
Agreed with the above. 4-5 months of training can be a big help at Academy and can make it easier for you to learn other skills during training. If you've got time, it will certainly be an aid. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth."
