Hiya,

Does anyone know anything or actually take won hop kuen do? If so, can you give me information about it, what weapons they use, if they have forms, etc?

There's a place nearby that teaches it, and I think it's taught by the founder,Al Dasaco or something so I'm also thinking about taking that too.

Thank you

Cya

Won Hop Kuen Do is an offshoot of Kajukenbo developed by Al Dacascos. Unlike Kajukenbo, the focus is softer in nature as oppose to the hard style of the Kajukenbo system.

Although I have no formal training in this style, I was fortunate to attend a seminar taught by Sifu Dacascos and found him to be very knowledgeable and energetic. This is my opinion from what I observed during the seminar.

I believe if you do a search on the internet, you will find their website for more info. Hope this helps.

I have met Al Dacascos and he is very personable. He had two schools here in Portland, OR But one of them has closed or moved. You can email him directly at:sifual@aol.com.

I studied a small amount of kung fu in my early years which was interrupted by my Jeet Kune Do phase which arrested any thoughts I may have had about studying any traditional styles. My son became interested in Tae Kwon Do and started taking lessons recently and as a result gave me a renewed interest in martial arts and now I am studying Olympic style TaeKwonDo at US West Coast school.

I have seen some of the students that are the product of the Dacascos school and they are badass (in my humble opinion) Good luck! :karate:

Oh and by badass do you mean like really bad at stuff? lol sorry, English isn't my first language so I don't know much slang or anything like that.

Hapkido Cougar,

Won Hop Kuen Do is a off shoot of the Kajukenbo system. It's focus is more soft style than hard style like it's parent system Kajukenbo.

Kajukenbo was developed in Hawaii by 5 martial artists, and has been overseen by Sijo Emperado. It is known as a street self defense system.

Won Hop Kune Do is a derivitive of that system, and utilizes all weapons from punches to kicks to ground grappling. Won Hop Kune Do was developed by Sifu Dacascos.
