iamrushman Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 good point TAEZEE............all belts deserve respect on face value. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
Angus Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Well i already know that i can back it up - the point is that i don't have one of the bloody things and i so desperately want to earn one.. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
thaiboxerken Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I don't respect blackbelts any more than anyone else, unless they earn it from me. You can say I'm disrespectful, but I have no idea what that blackbelt really means in your schools. There are too many McDojo's out there for me to respect a person just because they are a "blackbelt". Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
iamrushman Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 ANGUS.....i appreciate your honesty here. THAI.....good point...a lot of places start you out as a white belt just because of that fact. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
Angus Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Hey thanx dude, i set out to be honest. I just wish the general public was more open minded so i didn't have to go thru all this mundane 'i have to get a black belt' crap. It tests my patience at times but hey, i'm still a student and i always will be, so i might as well stick with it. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
Karateka Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 You guys should train in Canada. Very few McDojo's up here. Odd? "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
Jack Posted July 28, 2001 Posted July 28, 2001 I am personally amazed at how some of these people say they've started martial arts in 1999 or 2000, and are already at black belt status! At our school, it takes about 5 years to get to Black Belt, I think this is a lot more reasnoble than these stupid McDojos. At my club they seem to be gold stripes for higher dans, however they're just there, its not like anyone really mentions them, we would respect our instructor even without those gold stripes JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
iamrushman Posted July 28, 2001 Posted July 28, 2001 i have never been affiliated with a mcdojo......how long is there progams to achieve a BB.......my very first BB took about three years and that was just the start. each one after that took even longer. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
SBN Doug Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 A comment in another thread made me think of this one. We don't put stripes on our black belts. We keep the same belt through 1st and 2nd dan. At third, we get a new belt, but it looks the same except for being a little wider. I believe you get your final at 5th (master) dan, and I think keep it from then on. ZeRo Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 i dont know about BB in our TKD club. all ive notcied is that they have roman numerals on one side and stripes on the other, i dont think this is a sign of showing off; it lets me know what rank they are. i have nothin but respect for my instructors and they have earned it.
