White_Tiger Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I have seen a few videos on Systema. It seems to be a style from Russia. Just wondering what you guys think of it.
JusticeZero Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 It -looks- like complete hocus. But then again, a lot of people think what I do looks like hocus too. Whenever asked, someone who does the style is completely unable to explain how any of what is seen works. I can explain my stuff, and people say "Oh, that makes sense.". The people I have asked so far have tended to go off on cultish ramblings with no actual substance. As a result, I don't think highly of it because I cannot derive any idea of how it works from observation or by questioning practitioners. Every other art, I can watch or ask questions and get some idea of their operating principles. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
bushido_man96 Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 This is new to me. I have never heard of it. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
White_Tiger Posted May 12, 2006 Author Posted May 12, 2006 Go to https://www.youtube.com and type in systema you will get all kind of videos on it. I sure don't like to put down others arts, but it just looks so fake.
ps1 Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 huh...the flow drills are cool. Similar to some of the things we did in Aiki Jujitsu. But the punching stuff seems kinda fake. I've seen people who could hit extremely hard from deceptive angles. But the person being hit couldn't take more than one or two hits. It's just dangerous. I wouldn't say it's something new. Medici Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I'm a little skeptical about it.... I've heard a few people say there are some things good about it, but this whip-punch stuff... even if you could generate enough power to hurt me, my jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts, etc will come in faster and probably still harder.
cathal Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I've heard it is used by the Russian military as their method of physical combat. I've seen a few people practice this when I did BJJ (only for a short time though) and it seemed to have some effective techniques.Don't know much beyond that, though. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
jaymac Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Looks like they use redirection of the opponents momentum somewhat well, but their strikes are poorly executed. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
Medici Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Yea, aikido uses a lot of redirection too. But I have never seen someone use aikido to disasrm anyone who could box or something like that. They end up dominated and destroyed.
