It depends on the type of kata. Is it showie? Lots of flips and flying kicks? Is it down to buisness? Solid strikes and thrusts? Is is slow and fluid? Fast and abrupt? These things will influence what type of music you should choose. XMA style katas do better with fast upbeat music in my opinion. More hard rock or hip-hop to the hard or stong katas. Obviously slower music with more fluid katas. Do a search on youtube or google video. A lot of people out there have video taped themselves doing kata to music. Find something that fits with what you like. It really depends on you. The main thing to do is find a song with a tempo that matches the combinations in your kata. Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

Bach's Violin Sonata No. 1, preferably in G minor.

David

PS

If that is not to your liking ( :kaioken: PHILISTINE!! :kaioken: ), than try going to a music store and just start listening to random cds in the "Dance music" section until you find something you like that goes well with your kata.

It all depends upon what your form is (weapons, open-hand, tricking, etc.) and how fast you'll be moving. (Sorry to kind of regurgitate what you just said, lordtariel, lol) I personally like to go with the techno-ish music when I do my forms (preferably DDR music) because it's upbeat and won't bore the audience to death. There's this one required form our school(s) practice called Chi-yu (not sure of the spelling) to the music "Exodus," which is painfully slow but a beautiful score nonetheless, and the judges always seem to have this really sleepy look about their faces whenever I see someone perform that in competition, lol.

Well, for Forms I recommend soemthing with a good beat in it...

(Trance, Techno, maybe some good rock, also Soundtracks from a big movie get alot of attention from the audience)
