Hey,

I was wondering does anybody here have a good way to toughen up shins/top of feet?. Whenever I start to kick my boxing bag I can only do between 5-10 before I have to change legs because they start to hurt (abit like when you kick a football without any shoes on). Kicking a kickpad (or whatever they're called) is ok it is only when I kick something reasonably solid, like a boxing bag, that they start to hurt a little. So is there a way to toughen them up or do I have to just keep on kickin and they will toughen eventually?.

Cheers in advance.

Keep with the heavy bag. The old addage 'No pain no gain' applies here.

Just don't go kicking banana trees now! Thats really dumb.

Yeah kicking bamboo trees, is the traditional way. But people will look at really wierd!!!

When you first start kicking heavy bags use shin pads first. Sounds silly but it does help for beginners. Next use a muay thai ointment/liniment on your shins. It helps out with the pain sooo much.

I do slug and kick the heavy bag a lot, at the local gym. I have learned if I kick higher where it is a little softer, and more giving it doesnt hurt as much as the lower area of the bag.

I forgot one more thing. I know this sounds kinda crazy, but it has worked for me. Take two dowel rods about 1/2in. thick and play the drums on your shins! It fun to do while watching t.v.
