pepto_bismol
lolz the article left out the part of the story where she kicked the walker out from under the guy.The school she trains at couldn't be more of a McDojo, giving black belts to ages 7 and up. She is very lucky she didn't get hurt and really misrepresents the school.I was going to quote a lot of people on fightingarts regarding this topic, but it looks like there site is down YAY pepto bismol
jaymac
McDojo or not Pepto, she defended herself effectively against an attacker and isn't that what learning MA is all about? A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
pepto_bismol
McDojo or not Pepto, she defended herself effectively against an attacker and isn't that what learning MA is all about?well MA is not "all" about fighting, I always thought "self improvement" "self knowledge" "self discipline" and "learning how to fight to avoid fighting" were all key parts in martial arts. I think the only thing that saved her in this fight was her confidence, and a little bit of luck. YAY pepto bismol
Spirit At Choice
Well, she got away, and that's the real point, isn't it?As far as her training is concerned, she's been studying for two years, and will get a black belt in one more... that seems mighty fast. Maybe she's just dedicated, but three years just seems like a very little amount of time to learn *so* much. I think I read on my dojo's website that a dedicated student could reach black belt in five years.Perhaps it varies from style to style. I think I saw a thread about "how many years to black belt" somewhere on here. I'll have to go back and find it. White belt mind. Black belt heart....Rejoice and be glad! mtheiss
I think it is wrong to just fight back an attacker. However, if they are in your bedroom or decided to get close to the subject, chances are that they may not be armed. These stories to me just show that there are reasons not simply to go around assaulting women these days unless you DO have a gun!
