eh, nope!

Going to the state championships in Sydney tommorrow though.

Chances ? Pretty poor since I've only been rolling for 2 months and I'll be in the weight division of 79-90kg I think it is since I'm 81kg. Older, heavier & more experienced guys.. As long as I learn something from it I'm happy.

What about you ?

Yeah I was thinking of fighting in the State Champs in Sydney until I found out Machado rules allow leg locks at Blue Belt and above. I've already had one knee reconstruction and don't need another!

I hope to fight in the Victorians during May. (Un)fortunately(?) I may be overseas on business so even if I do make it to the competition, I won't have rolled for approximately 2 weeks which won't do me any good. Other than that I would have rated my chances at a medal as good (hey you've got to be positive!).

Bon, you're about the same weight as me - who knows we might end up on the mat sometime

Dutch, probably... =)

Not for a while though, I'm only a white belt.. Plus, I could do with losing a few kilos to come down a weight class..

I went to Sydney yesterday, and I 'lost'..

I got taken down by the other guy and put in his guard, which I tried to pass but I wasn't doing it properly so it obviously didn't work. He then tried to apply a choke on me, we struggled for a couple of mins with this, I sort of countered and held off, the counter wasn't too effective since I did it too late and my neck was really hurting afterwards, haha. I then tried to pass his guard again, which I again didn't do properly and I eventually ended up getting arm barred, which I tried to resist for a couple of seconds before quickly tapping.

Reason I 'lost' is because I learnt A LOT, probably wouldn't mean too much if I wrote out what I learnt, but even though I was kind of dissapointed to get taken down by a grappler since I have better stand up skills and should have made use of them. I'm one happy chappy now and I can't wait to get back on the mats tommorrow and try some things.. =)

My point is ....

1. When someone aplies an armbar or choke you feel discomfort / pain in advance of any damage - so it's easy to tell when to tap.

2. A heel hook i.e. rotationlaa knee lock, is different. Often the 1st pain you will feel is as the joint breaks - and it's a musch nastier injury than popping an elbow - it's the rotation that does the damage. Ankle locks & straight knee-bars are ok.
