Sohan
Hello. Is it weapons in Karate???If I understand what you're asking, I believe you're saying "Are there weapons in karate". In Okinawan Shorin ryu and Shudokan karate-do we do indeed study weapons, including the bo, sai, kama, noburikaman, tonfa, and nunchaku. Intorductory kata for the bo and sai are tokamina bo and chatanyara sai, respectfully. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." kinisson
In Nick Cerio's Kempo karate style, we also study weapons...tho its teached at higher level.Nunchaku, the bo, sai , tonfa and kama's are mostly the weapons we learn to use, tho the sai and tonfa kata are learned after the black belt
Whitefeather
From what I have seen, read, and heard, it all depends on the instructor and the dojo. Some instructors probably teach very few weapons, and there are some who can teach so many different types of weapons it would make your head hurt. That's why black belts can have different ranks in karate and kobudo - they are technically separate systems. Hell, "karate" even translates to "empty hand" - pretty much precludes the use of weapons.CQ Jason B.Hendersonville, NC"I'm not really eccentric... GOM
Hell, "karate" even translates to "empty hand" - pretty much precludes the use of weapons.CQ"Karate" originally meant "China hand", or "Tang hand". It was changed to "Empty hand" by Funakoshi around 1930. Many of the karate-ka did practise kobudo, but they would usually train under a kobudo teacher, not their karate teacher. Does Karate have weapons? Yes, if you refer to your body as a weapon. No, if you refer to other objects.
patusai
Isshin-Ryu uses some weaponry. I know some other styles do too but a lot of times the weapons training is limited and one must go outside to get more training "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
