Dojo Challengers

well i have always wanted to have a dojo vs. dojo match-up especailly wen it comes 2different syle cus there arent many kungu academys were i live so it be nice to see out of the few academy's " whos kung-fu is betta (always wanted to say that) and also actually see my style against all these karate dojos around here. but sadly it has never happended that i no of atleast.

I think it is best not to challenge instructors in front of others. That should be an off class subject.

one person whouseto be aprat of my currentdojo one wrote something inappropiate on a Jujitsu school flyer but luckly in the end he got kick out for multiple reasons and we ended up becoming good friends with that school they even invited us to their belt testing which we enjoyed

What you state here could be something very positive in the MA community. If the dojos could get together, and come up with a rules base for some kind of interdojo tournament, then you could stand to learn a lot from each other, without offending anybody.

It could also strike some very good MA friendships, leading to training together, and the healthy exchange of information.

Maybe even lead to interdojo seminars and training sessions.

Lots of positive possibilities here.

This is something that Brazilian Jiujitsu does very regularly. It is nothing to call a school and ask if you can bring some students up for the day. This has always been extremely positive.

We've also done it in my Chuan Fa school as well. This became almost too competitive. The students began to go a little hard. They're never trying to harm anyone...just get caught up in the heat of the moment. But when you're striking, that can become very dangerous. It was still positive to see the applications and fight against other systems.

However, when it comes to Karate and TKD schools (that I've attended)...there is always problems with it. They can't agree on rules or the businesses are too close...Personally, I feel they can't let their egos go. Many of them just worry about the bottom line. Others are forbiddin from doing this by their affiliations.

I actually heard the owner of the Shotokan school where I train and teach say he wouldn't do it because he's afraid he'd loose students. Does he really have such little faith in the loyalty of his students? I was shocked!

once professor Gary Lee challenged our school, i was not practicing with them back then, this is what i was told, he came in with his backpack, with all the books/patches/flages everything, and asked for a challenge or forfeitting and closeing the school so every body could join his new school. anyway sensei was not in since he had his day time job, so they called him and he accepted the challenge, professor stayed till sensei came in and said "let's go"

Gary lee " you are not gonna put a Gi on?"

-"No this is fine , let's get over it"

Mr. Lee got a punch to his throat and got knocked out, he didn't ask for another challenge match and left.

I know this guy..I met him long ago when I trained in Houston. This does not suprise me.

we have a local person always pestering us on our guest book that calls himself a "real martial artist". he hasn't done it in a while but our divission head does not promote it. but i have seen one of the masters invite the guy to a tournement. he hasn't replied back since. being an instructor, if someone walked in and challenged me in front of my class or discreetly i would tell him if he wants to spar me he can join the association or enter a tournement.

thats what i would like to say. knowing my temper however i would probably say "hey i keep an extra pair of gloves in my bag just for this occasion" i hope it never happens but being in this buisness its likely to some day.

If I was challenged in front of my class, I would ask the person to come back when class is over, then we go in when its empty, lock the doors and the winner walks back out..They never seem to come back after class.

Yes, the egos are the big problems that prevent these oppurtunities for good martial artists to network together and form alliances.

I hate politics.
