What style did Bolo Yeung use?

Featured Replies

I have heard that he practices Taiji. I'm not so sure about that whole Shotokan thing...

That's cool about the Shotokan...I had seen him announced as Shotokan champion in Enter the Dragon, but people have told me that was false. Looking at his fighting I would have said a Southern style of Kung Fu or maybe something like Tai Chi.

Back in 1979, my roommate who was from Hong Kong (and who studied kung fu) told me that Bolo was a shotokan stylist.

pretty sure it was hapkido

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

I know his style 'of choice' is Tai Chi. But I don't know about any other experience he may have.

Bolo never trained in shotokan. He trained in various styles of kung fu when he was younger and also in acrobatics. His main style was probably powerlifting and taiji. He was a powerlifting champ and used to teach powerlifting classes in china.

On the intro to the Bruce Lee collectible anniversiary Enter the Dragon video, they referred to him as the Asian Shotokan champion.

Of course, that was in '73 or '74, I think.

Correct. According to Wikipedia:

Bolo says on his own website that he still practices tai chi. He began as a bodybuilder but was a Hong Kong powerlifting champion as well.
