Jersey Devil Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Guys, guys, guys, at the risk of making yourselves look silly, why not do your research first?https://www.geoffthompson.comGeoff is the real deal, that's for sure.DCMS.Thats something along the lines of what I was hoping for- his books involved chokes and strangles, striking combinations, and judo. My first impression is a good one. What I was afraid of was seeing a bunch of books on deadly eye gouges and biting techniques.
TigerDude Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Geoff Thompson may be good, but the clip was bogus. It made an assertion & then backed it up with a scripted scene. "Traditional Martial Arts may be useless." That's a statement that actually says nothing. It sounds too much like "my style is better." If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi
Jersey Devil Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Well, people often hate arguing over who's style is better than who's, because the unfortunate reality is that some styles are superior to others in certain aspects. This being the case, often times the style who's strongpoint happens to be a very common situation in a real fight is deemed to be the better style.
Sohan Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 ...How many well trained, non-professional fighters would have a great chance of escaping two attackers like that?...I don't know, but I like my chances....and I'm no great shakes...Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." ps1 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Don't Call Me Sir Said: The clip is a very small part of and intro for a RBSD video/DVD. Don't read too much into it, or take it out of context, it's a clip for goodness sake! Don't judge a book by it's cover. The video/DVD is very good as it happens,. DCMS.I understand where you're coming from here. But it is a clip that is taken out of context. We aren't given the opportunity to see the rest of the context, so it is the context. I think that is what makes people upset. The whole goal of it is to discredit "traditional and sport comptetitive" martial arts. While Geoff Thompson is a well known and very skilled individual (two of my instructors have trained with him at times), he's still being a jerk with the clip. The fact is that ANYONE can get mugged at any point. At least if there's a chance to throw a punch, the trained person knows how to throw it. The fundamental proplem with the clip is awarness, not fighting style. Afterall, the guy's fighting style seemed to be duck and cover. This video clip is just an attack at traditional martial arts. And I don't know anyone who likes being attacked. That's why people are responding the way they are. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
