lordtariel Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Do you wear gloves when using a punching bag? Or will you eventually condition you hands without them? There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Drithen Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I have scars between my knuckles from where a canvas bag ripped my hands up... I suppose after time you could build up your hands to resist something like that... but why? I prefer open hands/elbows in an actual street fight situation. Sohan Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I never go bare knuckled on canvas. I mix gloves and BN on the regular bag so that my hands don't get too used to gloves. I like the gloves, though, for more reps. I suppose you can condition them to withstand BN punching, but you are likely causing irreversible damage to the joints and nerves over time.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." Drithen Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Bushido; I left the "Kai" off, because I didnt want to make the image much smaller. The middle part is red because it kinda looks like a cross, and my organization is Christian martial arts. I like to read it as "Way of the Christ Warrior." It's great to be able to make that connection to your religion. Thanks for the explanation.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." UseoForce Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Gloves protect you tools. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
Aodhan Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I don't use gloves, but I also use a wavemaster, not a canvas bag. If I used a canvas bag, I'd wear some sort of protection so as not to tear up the skin, but it would have as little padding as is feasible.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
pepto_bismol Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I had to condition my knuckles for a long time so my knuckles don't really get cut anymore, but I used to use hand wraps. The only reason I have gloves is to protect the other person from getting hurt, not myself. YAY pepto bismol
danbong Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I found that by using vertical punches I could workout on the heavy bag BN. Mayb the isshin ryu and wing chun guys are on to something ichi-go ichi-e 一期一会one encounter, one chance
