Kill Jill
The WTF has recently announced official evaluation results of electronic protector prototypes, after they put out a worldwide tender for design proposals. The WTF has now awarded a Korean company (surprise) the contract to develop their prototype further. However, even this company's prototype couldn't fulfil all the technical assessment requirements in terms of registering all the various impact types. I think there are going to be a lot of scoring errors occuring as a result. They can't possibly get it ready in time for the Olympics, surely. Are you longing for electronic protectors? There are no limits.http://taekwondodiaries.blogspot.com^^*

How do you tell the difference between a hard punch and a hand that blocks but gets shoved into the hogu?I think the best thing is the way boxing is starting to go. More judges, and for it to be a point, a majority of the judges must push their "point" button within a certain time after the attack.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
mtheiss
I think the responder had a good idea. I think it is wrong simply to have an electronic scorer on the chest of a traditional TKD tournament. Reminds me of the situation at the 88 Olympics where one gold medal was decided simply as a matter of "home country" 4-1 gratitude (instead of obviously a 5-0 against scorecard). My suggestion is to use the traditional boxing round 10 point system. However, I do not think that will be well recieved. Tomcat
I wonder if they could learn any technical tips from the fencing electronic scoring devices.Scoring points in a TKD match and a fencing match are two whole different ballgames, I realize. foofies
''Mr. Jong-Dae Kim, president of Fair Play, said that Taekwondo demanding momentary speed and power is not easy to judge, and that the electronic protector displays accurate scores immediately and it will help Taekwondo games more enjoyable just like basketball , eventually promoting its popularization. "The electronic protector adopted, athletes will concentrate more on accurate power and speed than on feinting or simulation. So their ability will improve much and Taekwondo, which has become one of the most scientific Olympic sports, will be cleaned of stains associated with refereeing controversies," he said proudly. "KTA's new decision will open a new chapter for Taekwondo history, and I'm very glad that my company Fair Play will play a role in it. Besides, I am very pleased that my company has contributed to the growth of Taekwondo."''That was fromhttp:// http://www.taekwondobond.nl/news/archive_item.asp?NewsID=73 HaKUnA MaTaTA
aefibird
Are you longing for electronic protectors? No, I can't say I am, actually.Personally, I'd prefer to see more judges and a different scoring/point awarding system to try and make it fairer. I think that there could be a lot of errors with electronic scoring protectors and also they don't account for the type of technique used or which part of the body is actually making contact with the protector.
