lordtariel Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 You didn't actually say you were going to kill him. You could argue in fact that you warned him of your ability to use deadly force. Although in today's sue-happy world, who knows? There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Ace2021 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Sue happy indeed. A fight broke out between me and another student today (I'm in highschool)..they all think they have something to prove.. anyway, as the croud instigated, he threw wild punches which I blocked easily until he got tired and walked off. Could've dropped him easily..saw at least 12 opportunities. Point is..the teachers and staff couldn't get involved because ...we could sue them for touching us. Where's the justice in that? They'd rather let another guy possibly put me into a coma or worse...then get sued. as you said, sue happy indeed. A New Age Dawns

AngelaG Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Personally I think you were extremely lucky that you didn't further inflame the situation. If the guy had really been out looking for serious trouble once you threatened such a high level of violence you could have provoked him to something further. He could have been carrying a knife. alsey Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 very good! you won without having to fight. that's what every martial artist should strive for. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
ps1 Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Sounds like Zanshin at it's best! Create an impeneterable posture. Very well handled. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
Brandon Fisher Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Good for you!! I am not sure I would use kill but it stopped him dead in his tracks and let him know you were the wrong target. I am pleased that you stood your ground and you are safe. God knows what would have happened if you had not done it. Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do
ShotokanKid Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 It is good to defend yourself, even if it is only verbally. By showing your self-confidence, you made this guy go pick a different target.Ditto. That's pretty smooth, how confident you were, from telling him you didn't have any money to give to him to getting him away from you. Sounds like something a character in a Clive Cussler/Tom Clancy/Robert Ludlum novel would say. "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
Maxma Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 If you're asking legally, no you didn't go over the top. He initiated with what is legally known as "fighting words" by saying he will take it from you. Anything from that point is self-defense on your point (to a certain extent, obviously.)As for morally, I think you are fine as well, because again, he threatened you. As with many of us here, you most likely do know more than one way to kill him. You told him that you had the capability, which in turn diffused the situation. I applaud your nonviolent end to the situation, an act which I believe is more commendable than following through with your counter-threat.
