Son Goku the monkeyking Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 hmm this is somthin i have been wondering, i love watching a good wushu demonstration: especially the the unarmed combat forms.but there is somethin i been wondering, i love the flexibillity, the acrobatics, and the martial art ( though some people rather call it just street performing) but i was wondering could some1 who studies wushu ever defend themselves with it, (meen the flashy kungfu stuff u see like in jackie Chan movies, or jet lee- crouching tiger etc. or like the stuff the wushu team dose) i beleve that the flashy stuff could help someone be able to defend themsevles if that person can use it righti strong point of it i beleive is that in a self-defence situation the person, who u may be up against would not no what do do against someone who studies Wushu giving the wushu person the advantage. i though about one day studying wushu, after i am done with my own training 2.) do u have to also be a sertain body frame to study wushu because i am kinda big: 5'7, 196lbs.PEACE

WudangDragon Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I'm 6' and 9.5 stones and i dealt fine with my Wushu training. You can defend yourself with it, but I wouldn't advise trying it against a decent martial artist. I used a 720 degrees, spinning heel-kick to defend myself against a non-martial artist once, but to be honest, i was doing it to show off what i could do (the girl i fancied was near-by).It was very effective though. . . . Moe Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 so did you hit the guy?A big problem is if you get too close to even a normal street guy, if you aren't careful and he brings you down its over.
WudangDragon Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 yeah i did. . . his arm was by his side (the other was holding aloft the bottle has was attempting to smash over my head) and i hit him just below the shoulder. . . .he ran away with his tail between his legs. . . Wushu is great as a defence system, but the flashier moves are best kept away from the trained opponent "We follow the World,The World follows Heaven,Heaven follows Tao,Tao follows the way things are."

WudangDragon Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Ok, ill try and describe it. . . lolI jumped and spun to my right. After a full 360 degrees turn i was facing my opponent again (still in mid-air). I put my right leg out in a side-kick position, so that i was facing my opponent with my kicking leg out to the right. I spun the other 360 degrees with my leg in that position until my heel hit my opponent's arm, and i landed on the ground. And thats a well as i can describe the 720 spinning heel-kick. . . the whole thing happens in the air incase u didnt get tht. . . . parkerlineage Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 I don't know about Wushu all by itself, but I think I could probably use it in conjuction with my other knowledge to cause some serious damage. A butterfly kick followed up by Kenpo hand attacks certainly works for me rather frequently.
