lordtariel Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I'm not sure if this should go into the testing forum or not, if so, I apologize. I was apparently unaware that you could gain ranks in Kobudo for my school. It's apparently determined by the number of kata that you know for the lower belts and some practical application in the later belts. Does you class have different ranks and what are the requirements. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
patusai Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I was not aware of this. I'd like to know too "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
SaiFightsMS Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Some styles have seperate ranks for each weapon. And as with the style you learn different forms for different ranks and applications. Some styles have a different ranking system whereby kobudo is one rank and to advance you pick up the next weapon and the skills associated with it.
GOM Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Within my Karate school, we have a seperate Kobudo class. We don't have a belt system, instead we use Mudansha and Yudansha. Holland Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Many styles consider kobudo training an entirely different form or martial arts...and really it is.In isshinryu we teach some kobudo, but in order to really get advanced weapons training I had to go outside our style. On top of running my own Isshinryu school, I train at a shitoryu school where the head instructor is a 6th dan in shitoryu and a 5th dan in Okinawan kobudo. I am on the verge of testing for my sho-dan in kobudo and I am looking forward to starting a seperate weapons class at my own school starting this May.
lordtariel Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 Good luck on the testing and it's good to see that you're going to add weapon classes to your dojo. It's pretty hard to find weapons training in many places. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
