KarateK Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 You fight the way you train, period. Some people are more effective with their hands, some their feet, some their trapping, and some their grappling. Thats it - spot on.However I do feel at times that boxing could be more my thing. However am STILL struggling to find clubs in my area who accept women - but thats another post!!I do think you should be commended for not purely dropping out. It does sound like you have some conflict with the way you were taught though? Or am I completely off-base? Karate Ni Sentinashi
cross Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 It does sound like you have some conflict with the way you were taught though? Or am I completely off-base?That is true, i wasnt happy with the training being provided. Unfortunatly it took me a long time to work out what i actually wanted from training, but im all the better for it now.
cross Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 (edited) My Story Continues:I recently tried a few other styles in my area, and was considering training in one, but after some more consideration ive decided to continue with boxing has i feel it will provide me with the best benifits overall. KarateK Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Am very pleased you have found a style to suit. I sometimes wonder if I am not being adventurous enough just sticking with shukokai karate - but I do enjoy it. Like I said there arent many different styles where I am - I know thats a lame excuse but it doesnt help.Although at the moment I would give anything just to train!! Karate Ni Sentinashi

patusai Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Your letter to your instructor was a very respectful ending to your karate pursuit. As for your decision, someone said something like "there are many paths to the way." I would agree and I believe you would too. What is right for me or right for someone else may not be the correct path for you. I am wishing you the best of luck in your pursuit. cross Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 The final chapter:Ok, after alot of eperimenting, thinking, and a long discussion with my karate instructor, I have decided to resume my karate training. The break helped me put alot of things in perspective and sortouf what i really want. I learned alot of things and am glad i left training on good terms with the instructor because it allows me to come back now that i see the benifits of his training.I will continue boxing for a while, for the conditioning aspect, but i realise that karate is where my heart is and that its a life long persuit.Thank you everyone for your replies, advice and constant posts that help me organise my thoughts and put things into perspective.
