This is a quick post about whats happened to me recently...

I recently started boxing, and find this type of training is very well suited to my goals in martial arts. Im not interested in competing at all, just fitness and the ability to look after myself if needed.

After 5 years of training in traditional karate, i have decided to stop training in this style. My main reasons for training martial arts is fitness and self defence, the training i was doing just wasnt cutting it. I wrote an official letter to my instructor thanking him for all he offered and explaining my reasons for leaving.

Just thought i would share.

Good on you, go for it :)

A drop of sweat spent in practice is a drop of blood saved in a battle.

A person who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the man doing it.

It's a shame you couldn't continue both. As long as you can walk away with something gained from the experience, hopefully it was not all wasted time. Best of luck in your boxing.

Good for you for respectfully parting ways with your previous instructor. So many people nowdays would just take off without a word.

My thoughts exactly Lordtariel. It is good that you realized that you wanted something different and were mature enough to leave on good terms. You may find that you want to return someday and if you leave on a positive note, your instructor will be more willing to take you back. Good luck in your training.

A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.

Good luck in the future. Maybe later on you will decide to compete. I have always respected boxers and their abilities, and wished I was in a position to learn from a trainer myself.

My father always told me that he personally felt that a golden gloves boxer was probably just about as good as any 3rd degree black belt out there, no matter what the art was. And him and I both are TKD guys.
