dafabe Posted April 17, 2002 Posted April 17, 2002 there were once 3 students of martial arts, one of Karate, one of Gung Fu, and one of boxing. They decided to go to a new club that claims to teach "fighting skills" the were intreged as to what system this was. On arival they asked why he (the instructor) belived this style was the best, Senior Instructor explained, "every style has it's weeknesses, my style does not, because it is not a style and it is not mine." _________________ "perfection, is something we all get closer too with training, but you will never get there and untill you accept this your mind will be limited in what you can achive" - Dave [ This Message was edited by: dafabe on 2002-04-17 06:39 ] "perfection, is something we all get closer too with training, but you will never get there and untill you accept this your mind will be limited in what you can achive"- Dave
CTpizzaboy Posted April 17, 2002 Posted April 17, 2002 Sounds like what Bruce Lee would say. The style sounds like jeetkundo to me. Jeetkundo is not a martial style and it evolves to match the students characteristic and personality. Canh T.I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversations.
Strife Posted April 17, 2002 Posted April 17, 2002 True, JKD isnt a style but a philosphy. Some of your stances and such may be the same, but almost no one is gonna be like Bruce Lee. Everyone wants ta be like Lee, forget Jordon! ______________________________________Its only funny until someone gets hurt. Then its hilarious.
G95champ Posted April 18, 2002 Posted April 18, 2002 Fighters make the style the style don't make the fighter. I think Ken Shamrock said that. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
striking_cobra Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 right on you guys... " The art of Kung Fu San Soo lies not in victory or defeat, but in the building of human character." Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo
Xtra Tribal Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 These comparitive topics sure get redundant: X vs Y = N There is no "best" martial art. A good martial artist is a good martial artist. - various good martial artists
Treebranch Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 Very wise, man. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
shorin_ru_girl Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 In my opinion, a good martial artists is one who is open to the strengths and weaknesses of her style and tries to be effective in the defending those weaknesses by learning other aspects of different styles. There are techniques out there that are said to universally effective but they may not workl for the individual... use what works for you. Obsession is a word used by lazy people to describe determination.
