Orion Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I've got my green belt grading on the 30th of April and ran through the kata's yesterday, unfortunately i've kinda forgotten some of them or keep adding part of the 3rd kata with the 4th etc. Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.
jaymac Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Talk to your instructor. It is important to let him/her know when there is something you need help with. Keep in mind with your shotokan training that there are alot of kata. Practicing them often is important. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.

Also it is important that you don't just always run through your kata one after the other without stopping to correct yourself. A good way to train on and improve your kata (even if that means just remembering it) is to allocate a set length of time that you will only practice one kata (a lesson, week, month, year), spend some time getting to know that kata and only then move onto the next. This is especially important when you move into the longer and more complex kata, if you spend all of your time thinking about what the next move is you're kata will never improve. Only by contrast can we see
