marie curie Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Any extra training (as long as it is from a quality instructor) is going to be beneficial You suck-train harder.......................Don't block with your faceA good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving. -Lao Tzu
UseoForce Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 If you're going to cross train, why wouldn't you study a grappling art? If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
JusticeZero Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 The two are too close in application, and so you'll have a lot of confusion. Also, their structure is different. I'd recommend instead of Boxing+another striking art that you look at Boxing+Judo. Apparently the stances and entrances are very similar, so you can switch them without changing anything structural, plus they excel at different situations. Also, Judo's "full on" mindset matches with Boxing. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
Sohan Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I personally have found that my Okinawan karate training compliments my boxing and Muay Thai well by providing me with good sources of punching power from my hips, as well as to establish better grounding and balance. Boxing makes me more fluid and gives me great footwork ability, which helps when I spar or do long chamber in karate. patusai Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Any extra training (as long as it is from a quality instructor) is going to be beneficial I would agree...although punching I believe is a bit different but that can be overcome "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
Medici Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Boxing will enable you to quickly defeat your karate counterparts, at least in a full contact head punching sparring session. (Uh oh, people may get mad at that one.)
cathal Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 How experienced are you in these two areas? .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
jaymac Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I think they will compliment each other to a certain degree but feel as others, it may be confusing. Try it out and see how you do. You may not need any of our opinions at all. Good luck. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
