Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you knew any good MA schools in the LA area around the city of glendale CA. I am a 17 year old guy and i am looking for more of a combative motivated place, a place where i learn how to fight with efficentcy. Athough i would like a place that retains tradition, i think when it gets to the more direct stuff (MMA) that kind of goes out the window. (Though not all the time) So if you guys could recommend any school thatd be great.

Also how does this school look to you guys: Combative Arts Academy The only thing that kinda leads me to think its mcdojoish is the initiation fee they make you sign, but i dont know, maybe thats a common thing and im just paranoid.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

If you live in LA, the possibilities must be endless. Shop around. Decide if you are interested in a sport MA, grappling art, traditional, etc... Then go from there by visiting schools and talking with the instructors about your goals. Try some classes. Good luck. You are lucky to be in an area where the options are limitless.

A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.

I live in West Los Angeles. When I moved here (about 5 years ago), I did a yahoo yellow pages search of every martial arts school within 10 miles (I also looked in the regular yellow pages).

I then called a bunch of the places I found, asked questions, and I even went and tried a few classes (lots of places will let you try a class or two for free in deciding whether to join or not).

I have to admit, though, that I did not look into any schools near Glendale. It is simply too far for me. However, if you're amenable to traveling for your training (i.e., West L.A.), I can recommend a few really good schools. Just let me know.
