SaiFightsMS Posted November 10, 2001 Posted November 10, 2001 The Nishiuchi tapes are from Panther productions. They are entitled Mastering the ___________(fill in the weapon's name), by Master Mikio Nishiuchi. I watch my cat get ready to swat things and I think about how the Shotokan tiger relates to using weapons. (Okay so I do think about strange things.) When a cat gets ready to swat the paw is held in and down. When the cat strikes the paw flips rapidly up and developes more power on the down swat. Tonfa kind of work like that. Some techniques involve an up flip into a down strike. Then some just come straight over the top. One big difference between the cat and the tonfa - the cat does not have the powerfull upwards swinging strike a tonfa can generate.
