Has anyone tried out the MA dojo shoes? If so what are they like and do you prefer bare foot or the shoes?

I been wearing martial arts shoes for sometime now, I don't mind being bare foot either :brow: .....However, if I'm working drills or self defense, then I do like wearing my shoes. If I'm practicing kata, then I rather be in bare feet that way I can "feel and grip" the floor properly :karate:

I like MA shoes. I wear them occasionally when I train w/ my Okinawan style group & when I box. But I can't bring myself to when I train in Taekwondo. I'm old school, I s'pose. The hard thing I've found with them is that they are not created equal. Some are very comfortable & some are just not! But its an individual thing. If you can find a place to try em on, do so. They're too expensive to not be comfy & not wear.

I like MA shoes because if someone attacked me in the street, I wouldn't be barefoot, but I'm more comfortable barefoot because I'm used to it.

I'm still wearing Asics "medalist" wrestling shoes. Many people I know are wearing this one from Five Elements. It is the old Converse patent remanufactured under a new label.

Wow Red, its a small world! Valley MA is a 20 minute drive from my house. The karate instructor I teach with swears by the 5 star shoes! I've yet to get a pair, but I'm sure I will. And NO, I don't work for them. :D

Too funny.

A lot of people like these shoes. That's for sure.

I have a pair of pine tree shoes. I like them and they are comfortable, but I only use them at demonstrations. I prefer barefoot because that is how I trained for years. Besides, the shoes mark up the dojo floor.

Thanks for the repsponses. I really like the 5 element ones. They look like the could be also worn as an all purpose shoe such as at the gym or just as sneakers. Does any body know if these are durable for out of the dojo use also?

Yes, I hear that they are. The instructor I work with often wears them around town. (And he's a 61 year old professional person. :D ).
