granmasterchen Posted March 29, 2006 Share Posted March 29, 2006 in general kickboxing due to a larger muscle group and more of an unnatural movement to your body along with the weight of your legs. We are used to moving our arms around in everyday life but not using our legs to turn off the lights, using our feet to cook or catch objects with. But in all honesty it matters on how much the individual trains. Arms and legs can each give you a great work out so it all depends on that persons personal training. Sure, throwing a kick burns more, but when shadowboxing and hitting the bag, a lot of people tend to throw more punches than kicks. this means that they won't be too far ahead of the pure punchers from a calorie burning perspective.However, you guys are dwelling on that, and that wasn't even his original question. The question was which will build more stamina. IMO, the boxer, just off pure training ethic. Your average boxer trains harder than pretty much any other athlete. Neither are very cardiovascular, if you are training them right. Your average ring fight is 70 - 80 % anaerobic and 20 - 30% aerobic. Kickboxing burns a whole lot more calories and is a lot harder.how is training for a three round kickboxing fight burining more than training for a 4, 6, 10 or 12 round boxing fight? The only thing extra thai really has going for it is that work in the clinch is mad tiring. And actually, in kickboxing (which is what he specified) you can't clinch, unless it's international rules... so training for kickboxing wouldn't even have that element.
