Me and some friends get together every so often and spar with wooden swords, wear armour, and stuff like that. We have a bang-up time!!

They are not quite traditional weapons, unless you were in medieval Europe. Eventually, we are going to start quarterstaff fighting. :brow:

wat weapons are taught in Medieval Martial arts i been woundering that for awhile

During the medieval times, a master-at-arms would often drill troops to use sword and shield, pole weapons like the halberd, and they would also include hand-to-hand fighting. Other weapons include axes, long pole axes, the quarterstaff, the mace, and the dagger.

Archery was also an aspect of medieval military training. Later on, in the 16th and 17th century, with the advent of firearms, what most of the unknowing public recognizes as fencing became popular with more slender swords, adopting the use of the thrust more than the cut.

Here are some great web sites on medieval martial arts:

I think you will be impresses with the intricacies involved in learning these systems. I wish I had a place near by to really hit some classes.

Me and some friends spar with Bo and Bokken (sometimes one of us has Bo, the other Bokken) to get better at versatility fighting. When you get hit it hurts, but it's fun...no pain no game right?

kendo is sparring all out. we don't actually use katana, but the shinai simulates the weight, balance and feel of katana very well. we also wear armor, but the sparring is indeed all out. all cuts are full speed and power as if we were trying to kill the opponent. the feeling when you're doing it is incredible.

"Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana

That's what it is all about, right? Learning.

The other day I decided to go with a two weapon system...long sword and battle axe. I learned a lot.....like I don't know how to block my right side against a lefty worth a darn.

I did learn some positive things, though, like hooking weapons with the axe, when to lead with which weapon, etc.

Remeber "Conquest" on the History Channel. That was one of the Best Shows Ever!

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

Not sure if I caught Conquest or not.

I do remember some shows where they actually compared different types of weapons fighting, and had some historical fencers to bounce ideas and stuff off of. That was kind of cool.
