that's quite a story jbbcj. Sounds like you're hanging around the wrong people. Especially if this was a family party. Did anyone call the cops?

They were in and out. Got away with it. some valueable lessons learnt that day. Limitations of full contact ring fighting is that u are trained to focus on only one person. U fight intinctively one person at a time. Thats when i started taking fighting seriously 18 years ago.

I know your saying that fighting more than one is almost impossible but i have seen it done. My brother and i started training for that situation drilling hammerfists and crosses in every direction and learning to take a punch in every direction to minimize the shock. evading blows not blocking. Positioning yourself in safe points in relation to your opponents.

Some kids were having a party behind us so my brother asked them to turn the music down. They got abusive so he got abusive.

Next thing u know they walking down the street 6 of them no weapons to take us out. I said to my brother give it a go. He was stronger more cabable of pulling it off.

It was on he ran in the middle of the bunch and started swinging hammerfists crosses and hooks evading the blows he could and returning full power hammerfists and crosses. Take a shot from behind and then return fire. Then it was full hammerfists crosses to the head in every directon. They gave up and ran home my brother chased them and smashed the windows of their home and smashed their cars in the drive while they locked themselves in their home. He gave them a broken nose .broken jaw, my brother came out of it bruised and ended up doin 3 months jail for it.

Jbb, where do you live where there are fights in the street, thugs coming into houses, etc?

I hope that MMA & TMA practicioners understand that fights are dangerous. I would say that in the states, at least in the south, more than half of households have firearms & if you show up & start hitting poeple you'll get shot. This is what would happen in my home, or my father's, my sister's, my brother-in-law's, etc. In urban areas there are guys who would just as soon shoot you as talk to you. If all they have is a knife, you'll be lucky.

As many have said previously, the mind is your best defense. Stay out of situations and places (if you can) where things like this might occur.

Just my opinion.

If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi

i havnt gotten in many fights, but i did about a week ago. there's this kid, who's been telling me he could beat the crap out of me and stuff, and he says i think im tough because i take mma...which isnt true. He doesnt know anything about mma, and think he's so tough. but anyway i tried to avoid the fight, but it was inevitable with him. after school he stopped me and pushed me, and punched me in the face. i wasnt gonna let that go. he tried to punch me again, and i moved out of the way. I then roundhouse kicked him the the side of the head. he fell, and was hurt but came back for more. I took him down, and got him in an arm bar. i wasnt gonna brake his arm, so i let go after about 15 seconds of him pleading for mercy. lets just say he doesnt talk to me anymore. ha

I certainly don't advocate violence, but I remember what it was like to deal with this in school. Sounds like you tried to be the good guy and he forced the issue. Just stay humble about it. The worst thing to do after winning a fight is to gloat, because karma has a funny way of evening things out...

It seems like everybody wants to talk about theories. Im really looking for someone to share with me their real life experiences. Ive heard the theories but they have never been able to be applied to me or have seen them in action on the street.

Ok real life expierence, I got into a fight with a cop. Didn't care that he was a cop he wanted to talk trash and start pushing me around in court. I told him he should leave, so he pushes back into a chair and says you should have a seat. Dirty cop, doesn't reflect on the good one's who do their jobs.

I jumped up and grabbed him by the throat and punched in square in the jaw. He went for an inside sweep and I pulled him down by his throat. He sprowlled out and I kneed him in the groin, when he brough his legs together I hooked one so when he went to circle I just layed there and enjoyed the ride. Anyway skipping all the play by play, it took 3 officers to pull him out of my guard, and when they got there I had my thumb in his eye and one our sides slamming his head into the floor.

Well, the same dirt bag officer, who is under investigation for this same event. Gets this monster 6'6" 200+lbs compared to my 5'4" 170lbs who was a Marine Corps washout to beat the crap out of me. That didn't happen either, but the kid tried twice. He was afraid to close to grappling range which is where I kept going just because that wasn't his comfort zone. And I'm glad the kid didn't pull his knife, which I lifted during our first fight. ;)

Having been in allot of streetfights I have two questions for you. One, what defines a street fight? Two, what define self-defense?

To me a street is defined by the open and childly directed aggression threw violence of both participants. Self-defense is defending yourself, but not trying to intentally harm another person.

I have actually had all my fights before I even studied MA. Ive had several sparring matches where in my school we try to fight as if its the street, few rules. its good for me because a suprising amount of people in my school have either been in very few fights or none at all. So I can gauge what I beleive will work based on my past experience. Which of course is not the same for everyone but I can also find holes in someones technique, example- if they are appling technique incorrectly, if there transition from one technique to another is unrealistic.

Anyway, my combinations before MA like my last fight was basically me pinning the guy against a fence with my left hand around his neck and pounding with my right fist...it worked Ok but I could have won it alot faster with technique

hey...

in all my years (over 20) and as long as i have practiced martial arts i have never had one fight. the times that i was challenged i walked away and was called yellow which is o.k. with me. i train to fight to avoid a fight. i am confident in my abilities and if one wants to call me yellow fine. I'll play the part. if my family is threaten I would defend them or if a friend is in trouble I would respond.

first by reasoning

second by leaving w/t family or friends

third I would defend myself if and only if all else fails. regardless of what some might think nobody comes out of a fight untouched. I was in the Marine Corp and many of my buddies hung out in bars and ended up in nasty bar fights. I refused to go as it invited trouble. I would have ended up defending them and myself and more than likely be injuried in the process. I am not preaching here but having read all of the comments I can only say violence begats violence.

I'm in high school (and as most of you probably know that can be rough), just because everyone is so cocky and wants to prove themselves. Well I accidentally bumped into this kid in the hall, and acting gangsterish he told me to square up, only a few people knew I was a Karateka, and they were wondering how this would end. Before fighting I tried to tell him to calm down, but he swung first.

As I assumed (which I shouldn't have), he was trying to box me as most untrained kids would do in a fight, he came at me with a flurry of punches, but missed because I just took one step back and roundhouse kicked him in the right thigh (pretty hard), and he lost his balance instantly and his head hit the floor (I didn't mean for that to happen), luckily everyone understood I was only defending myself so I didn't get suspended or kicked out of the dojo.

After that I saw at least 7 kids in the hall and at classes asking me where I train and how can they.
