So you agree MMA is a pretty good testing ground?

BTW: Have you ever been hit hard with a knifehand in the neck? It might not end the fight, but it is certainly a stunning blow.

Tell me about the time that you or one of your friends used the knife hand in a streetfight situation so we can all learn how to effectively use it.

Why does it matter where I am? My partner hit me with it in the dojang. It has a stange stunning effect. It wasn't even a hard shot. Will it work against eveyone? Probably not. But it worked on me!

It would probably have a similar effect whether I was in the dojang or jumped as I stepped out of the door.

I do know people who have used this strike (with the forearm instead of the hand {I like the forarm, too} with great success.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

getting hit with a knife hand to the neck can be very deadly. It is a very dangerous technique when used on the neck, but then again any technique to the neck is dangerous and deadly. If you strike the front at the throat/adams apple you can easy stop a fight. It causes an initial shock and can close your windpipe, thus suffocating. Just try smacking yourself lightly with a ridgehand or handknife in the throat now (lightly) to see the effect. A strike to the side of the neck can cut off blood flow to the brain by pinching temporarily an artery just like a sleeper hold or triangle choke. When you strike the artery there and it pinches shut for a moment it creates an air pocket in the blood and once that air pocket reaches the brain its lights out. You can quickly recover deepending on how big the air pocket is a small tap is easy to recover from, a powerful strike or continueous pressure like in a triangle choke can knock you out or even kill you. A strike to the back of the neck is also deadly due to a very potent vital point located there, again a light attack can drop an opponent from any of these spots on the neck and a strong attack can kill an opponent in any of these spots as well. Very dangerous and be very careful when training these techniques....only to be used in a life or death situation....unless you are looking to go to jail for manslaugter or similar charges.

An air pocket would be lethal as it would probably cause a stroke. The loss of consciousness is caused by a disruption in the flow of blood to the brain. The brain requires a continuous steady flow of blood and cannot tolerate an interruption caused by the blow fo the carotid.

Very much agreed. Sounds like jbbca is testing these techniques a little too frequently. Ultimately you will be held responsible for your actions, probably in court. If the find that you responded with excessive force, you will be in some serious trouble. You may actually face a stiffer penalty than someone without MA training because the court may expect you, as an MAist, to have the knowledge necessary to subdue an aggressor without causing permanent injury, like a joint locking technique. An an MAist you more than anyne should know the potential for severe injury in MA techniques.

the thing about threads like this is they don't have much point... I have barfights literally 4 days a week (bouncer) but what works for me may not work for you. Heck, it may not even work for me the next time I try it. Likewise, what you guys use may not work for me.

When you strike the artery there and it pinches shut for a moment it creates an air pocket in the blood...

Blood is pressurized in your circulatory system, you can't create an air pocket by merely hitting your opponents artery, that's why if you were to inject yourself with air you would die, your heart would have nothing to pump on a single beat and that would be it. The actually effect would be a pulse to the heart, a flutter if you will. In this particular stike, It would either hold blood back for a split second, or force it foward depending on where the heart beat is at when/how your opponent is struck.

But I agree if you know what your doing, it is a very shocking strike. (though I favor the hammer strike).

im sorry my terminology was so bad.....the whole "air pocket" but you all appear to know what i mean, the void of blood, something that when it reaches the brain is not normal....

You cant beat mma for the real street fight effect. It has all the components of streetfighting that i have seen and been involved in but they are better at it.

eh, what if they have friends? MMA often goes to the ground in grappling style, but irl.... your opponent's buddy/buddies will be comming at you with broken bottles and multiple fists.

You suck-train harder.......................Don't block with your face

It seems like everybody wants to talk about theories. Im really looking for someone to share with me their real life experiences. Ive heard the theories but they have never been able to be applied to me or have seen them in action on the street. It may be said that a technique works in the dojo but under a streetfight situation your body and mind behave differently. Im only relaying what i have experienced personally in the dojo and on the street. To me defending myself has been a lifetime goal that i am still trying to perfect.

Yes i have the experience and i have been taught properly. I always portray myself as a student as i am now.

Does anyone want to share their real life experiences on the street so all of us as students can learn something from your experience.
