Well here is a little twist to it there are 8th dan's in there also. The shorinkan 7th and 8th dan's wear the red / white kyoshi belt. But I agree there are not many that rank that still truly train in a lot of organizations.

That's awesome, seeing those guys still going. I hope I can get there, and still work with my students.

I think training at that level is fantastic. There are so many that stoptraining, but I think it was Funakoshi that said "Karate is like hot water, you need to constantly apply heat to keep it hot"

I've been told that the satin belts that fray more easily than the standard cotton belts so if you want that look :D

I personally have a normal cotton belt.
