parkerlineage Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Oh, yeah - my belt isn't the highest quality, probably, but it's cloth, and thick. I got it that way because I knew I wasn't getting a promotion any time soon, and I want it to last me for...possibly seven or eight years. IcemanSK Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 As has been mentioned, its not whether the belt frays. Cuz if its worn a lot it will fray over time. Its whether you HELP it fray. I recently met an instructor who has a fairly worn belt. In our organization, you're given a new belt at each testing. I asked how long he's had it. "2 years," he said. But he owns a full time school & its in hot, muggy Florida where you sweat just putting on a uniform. Here in Los Angeles where its dry, your belt is dry 10 minutes after you take it off. My belt probably won't wear as quickly...& I only train about 10 hours a week w/ a belt on. Time to hit it w/ a rock, I guess Being a good fighter is One thing. Being a good person is Everything. IcemanSK Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I found the picture of Juan Moreno (2x Olympic Silver medalist) & his frayed belt. I know he's trained hard (rather than beating it w/ a rock). I still can't decide if I like the look, tho. What do you think?http://www.usatekno.net/USATekno/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=26 Being a good fighter is One thing. Brandon Fisher Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Here is a picture of Renshi Donnie Michael of the Shorin Ryu - Shorinkan of Kokomo Indiana. This is 7 years of teaching 40 classes a week and training also with the same belt on. The second picture is of Hanshi Minrou Nakazato, 9th dan of the Shorinkan in Okinawa before his promotion to 9th dan when he was still wearing his kyoshi belt.https://www.fisherkarate.com/misc-pics/donniemichael.jpghttps://www.fisherkarate.com/misc-pics/hanshimnakazato.jpg Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do

Brandon Fisher Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Well here is a little twist to it there are 8th dan's in there also. The shorinkan 7th and 8th dan's wear the red / white kyoshi belt. But I agree there are not many that rank that still truly train in a lot of organizations. Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do
